THEIR STORY
Hettie Fenn carries cullet and minds the fires at the Rimewick glassworks, and she has never wanted to be anywhere else. She and Arlen Holloway grew up two doors apart and have argued about everything since they could talk. On the last night of the midwinter fair the old pane broke and Arlen changed, and by morning he had gone up the white road. She is asking every stranger who passes to go after him.
FROM
Rimewick, below the snow line of Kestrel Heights
HOW THEY LOOK
Small, square and strong from carrying cullet, brown hair tied back with wire. A shiny burn on her right thumb that she rubs without knowing it.
IN THEIR OWN WORDS
“He would come for me. So I am asking you to go for him.”
“Don't tell me it's only glass.”
