HEARTHWANE · ROBBER
human, 19
Was given a reindeer calf her father brought down from under the ice hall, and named him Bracken.
THEIR STORY
Jinny Scarrow is the robber chief's daughter and has never lived anywhere but the stone fort at the head of the valley. She sleeps with a knife under her pillow and keeps a dovecote, three dogs and an old reindeer called Bracken that her father brought down as a calf from somewhere above the cairns. She talks about the heights as if she knew them. She has never been higher than the cairns.
FROM
the robbers' fort at the head of the Rimewick valley
HOW THEY LOOK
Lean and freckled, black hair hacked short with her own knife, a wolfskin over three stolen coats. Grins with her mouth and watches with her eyes.
IN THEIR OWN WORDS
“My knife says no. I say yes. We'll see.”
“Bracken knows the way. Bracken knows more than you.”
